Resort to Re-Launch as the First Five-Star Property in Cozumel
MEXICO CITY (July 2006)
A star is re-born in Cozumel. Grupo Presidente, operators of Presidente InterContinental
Hotels & Resorts, will unveil the first ever five-star luxury resort in Cozumel when
the Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa makes its highly anticipated
debut this October.
The re-opening of the 220-room Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa,
following an extensive $25 (USD) million redevelopment project, is seen as a major
step by Grupo Presidente and is considered the beginning of the transformation and
re-positioning of Cozumel as an upmarket, luxury destination.
"There is no doubt that Grupo Presidente is leaving an indelible mark on Cozumel
with the launch of the five-star Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort &
Spa. We are excited to bring a completely new level of resort to Cozumel," said
Mr. Carlos Behnsen, Director of Marketing, Grupo Presidente.
The property is expected to be one of the most luxurious and exclusive resorts in
Mexico, with completely redesigned spacious rooms, including the new "Ocean Suites"
category. All of the resort's 220 rooms and suites will boast widescreen plasma
television sets, designer furnishings, and top level amenities. Oceanfront rooms
will offer unparalleled views of the Caribbean Sea.
The resort will feature a number of luxury experiences designed to compliment and
enhance the offerings in and around Cozumel, specifically experiential dive programs,
a Serenity Spa and golf putting green.
The property's PADI Five Palm watersports operation, Scuba Du, will focus heavily on
providing a world-class dive experience for seasoned divers as well as novice water
enthusiasts. Guests that wish to experience Scuba Du's "Discover Scuba" program or
become a certified diver can do so at the resort's expanded facilities for diving and
certification.
The property is nestled upon 1,000 feet of Cozumel's most prized white sand beach
and is just minutes from the magnificent Palancar Reef, the largest barrier reef in
the western hemisphere and the second largest barrier reef in the world.
The Serenity Spa, the only full-service spa in Cozumel, will offer a full menu of
services for both men and women using indigenous products of Cozumel, featuring
several one-of-a-kind signature treatments, such as the "Mayan Journey."
Golfers will enjoy honing their short game at the resort's new putting green, before
heading out the Cozumel Country Club, which features a championship golf course
designed by the Nicklaus Design Group. The challenging course is built around Cozumel's
native trees, red mangroves and natural wetland.
Guests can enjoy the many cultural and eco-tourism activities near the resort,
including Chankanaab National Park, which offers snorkeling, diving and an area
to swim with dolphins as well as the ancient Mayan ruins located on the north side
of the island.
The resort will also feature a picturesque courtyard with retail shops; a gourmet
Italian restaurant, Alfredo di Roma, as well as a more casual dining option,
Caribeño Restaurant, featuring a spectacular bar and lounge area for guests with
inspiring views of the Caribbean Sea. A second "quiet zone" pool is being added
and the resort's renowned complimentary children's club, The Chiqui Club, will be
available year-round.
